Was Anne of Green Gables right or wrong?

image

Since turning three, we have been helping AbiNoelle learn how to play independently for a span of time instead of being occupied by Mommy or Daddy. Audio stories have greatly aided us in achieving a successful and enjoyable independent playtime.  The latest addition to our audio collection, Anne of Green Gables, captured her attention as she listened to the new story for the first time. Not a peep was heard until Anne, Continue reading “Was Anne of Green Gables right or wrong?”

The one blog you can’t miss! READ NOW!

If you have read this blog previously, you know that we exert much effort in developing a love for learning and making each school day fun and interesting. However, as we grow, at some point, we are introduced to certain subject matter that is avoided by most, cringed at by some, and uncomfortable by all. One of those being – Death and dying. It’s not a subject that most of us typically wake up thinking about, much less decide to incorporate into our day’s homeschooling lessons. Nevertheless, it is a real aspect of life that has eternal significance; therefore, shouldn’t it be taught? Much preparation and development had been given to our end-of-life lesson (which we will detail below), but the day came when we finally had to face it – the Death lesson.

Definition of Family/ Husband & Wife Night

Just the other night, AbiNoelle proclaimed that it was Husband and Wife Night! For some that could be akin to the kindergarten teacher explaining how SHE and her WIFE cook together, spend time together, live together, etc. and then cunningly proposing to the class the question of whether or not THEY were a FAMILY. The books King and King and King, King, and Family further aggrandize the agenda. For AbiNoelle, when Mommy responded: “Yippee!…..what does that mean?”, in her own confident way she said, “Well, it means that…

It Popped! – And do you know what came out?

Can you guess what happened?

What a week! We have so much to tell, but first…..the popping! Language Development class with Mrs. Pintar has been right on time. The Fall-like air has been teasing us a few mornings along with the allergies that tickle the nose. We’ve had a few itchy noses and sneezes around here, so the lesson on Healthy Bodies was a timely reminder. Mrs. Pintar taught and illustrated the fact of germs and the importance of using tissues, covering our coughs and sneezes and washing our hands. One illustration was quite memorable.

To prove how important it is to cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing, Mrs. Pintar brought out what every K4 child loves ( or at least, AbiNoelle) and what a lasting impression. It was a lesson learned with a ooey-yuck and wrinkled nose when Mrs. Pintar took that pin and

Can you believe it! I’m so excited!

image

Giggles, squeals, and bubbling energy were barely contained as we started Phonics with Mrs. Pintar. The promise of the most special day had us antsy in our seats. After a little review with vowels and consonants to bring routine and order…it was finally revealed. Look what Mrs. Pintar had today…

A Habit of Labouring – STOP HER, PLEASE!

From labor party riots in the 1800s to lazin’ on the river in 2015, America has “progressed” in many degrees from if you work you eat to a don’t work we’ll feed you society. Our family has personally experienced first-hand those, who with great needs in life, receive innumerable incentives from local, state, and federal agencies to stay in the gutter and take the hand-out instead of striving to rise above to develop a work ethic and personal achievement. Well, let it be known, that this house LABORS and a lot of times we LOVE it! On Friday, we had a fun activity planned that needed to start about mid-morning, so AbiNoelle hopped out of bed a little after 7am, pulled on her clothes, and ran into the school room to get started, you’ll never believe the next-day follow-up!

“Mommy, why can’t kindergarten…”

How’s your Monday? Well, this is what came of our Monday… –

Yesterday was a wonderful day in the Lord! From Sunday School time (so thankful for diligent teachers who prepare extra special lessons for AbiNoelle’s age) to Pee Wee Patch the Pirate Club (Jesus cares for His creation and meets our every need) to the beginning of Missions Conference – what a great way to start the week! Monday – Alarms sound, breakfast done, Bible time with Mrs. Wasser and on the day sails – quite smoothly for a Monday! And then, it happened. K4 was done and it was lunch time. AbiNoelle and I are munching away, when out came the question: “Mommy, why can’t kindergarten…

It was that K4 teacher that made that LOOK!

image

Look at that face! What happened in school today? To be sure, there is certainly a surprise lurking around every corner in K4! But this lesson brought out many extreme feelings. Classtime began with two simple brown bags and something that was Mrs. Pintar’s favorite. Everyone was so excited as she described its appearance, its uses…right down to its origins in the land where Jesus walked when He lived on this earth. As many eager eyes watched, Mrs. Pintar slowly opened the bags and produced her surprise. She took a dramatic sniff and had all the children believing that her favorite would soon become their favorite. For many that would prove true, but for AbiNoelle….well, let’s just put it in her own words….

No indigestion & You’ve never heard it like this before….

With a “twitter and a tweet” [I mean the nature alarm clock style not the social media version], we were back to our regular wake up, get up, and get dressed for school schedule this week. One particular day, we finished K4 DVD and headed into town for lunch and grocery shopping. As we sat down to eat, AbiNoelle asked if she could pray like she does for Mrs. Wasser in Bible time. I said that this was fine and we bowed our heads and folded our hands. She began, “Our Father, which art in heaven…” She forged ahead beautifully, “… Give us this day our daily bread…” And without missing a beat she continued with
