I was once told that “History is the key to our past,” yet, while so true, it seems that many are trying to get us to jam that key into another door – a door that would open the minds of young people to a world where truth has been re-interpreted, twisted or erased to meet the agenda of a leftists few. After reading of the stripping of the Laura Ingalls Wilder award by the American Library Association, I was all the more tickled to hear AbiNoelle’s gasps as she rushed out of the schoolroom to tell me this surprising fact: Continue reading “The Ban on Little House and our Surprising New Fact”

It’s Back to School and all those cute little pics are blowing up your feed. Our “posed” shots are coming soon, but the reality is that AbiNoelle is actually four weeks into her second grade year with Mrs. Chappell and the Abeka DVD program. Let me just say, this school year is off to a great start! So great that I wanted to share it with you all. It’s all thanks much in part to our routine change in two areas. I know, many of my homeschool friends are ready to faint at that word “routine,” but it works for us, and just maybe a few quick details might inspire you. Continue reading “Abeka Seatwork and Why we start at 7AM!”
Grandmother used to say to the idea of an afternoon drive, “Well, if you’ve seen one tree, you’ve seen them all!” Some might call this a practical view, maybe a sign of boredom, or even a glass-half-empty type of negativism. Really the diagnosis is simple – RWS! RWS? What? You haven’t heard of that one? Well, it’s definitely real, and I am here to tell you today that I have experienced it. Thankfully it is avoidable, but first, we need to talk about Princesses. Perhaps, we could even say, “Well, if you’ve seen one Princess, you’ve seen them all!” BUT WAIT – there it is again – RWS! Maybe you have it and didn’t even know it! Let me explain… RWS is otherwise known as Continue reading “RWS and the Princess Problem”
Yes, you are correct. A view of the Bar? Bar means BAR! – as in beer, drunk, Asheville, NC. Our beautiful Asheville, NC, set in the Great Smoky Mountains has been quite overtaken by the liberal left and become the prime spot for Craft Beer and Breweries. “Oh be careful little eyes what you see?” song ditty has turned into “Oh be careful better close your eyes for sure” every time we venture downtown for a mail run. On this day in point, we rounded the corner from the Post Office and stopped at a traffic light. Right outside AbiNoelle’s window was a old mechanic shop turned beer joint and with a quick gasp she looked and said, Continue reading “A View of the Bar”

Is there such a thing as Holy Imagination?
The imagination of a child is unique and many times, unmatched. In this day, with mesmerizing stimulation forefront in daily activities, a child’s imagination can look like a withered, yellowed plant burdened and depressed by bugs, environment, predators and the like. AbiNoelle’s mind, rarely so encumbered, is always spinning and whirling with ideas, thoughts, stories and questions all spurred by an audio story, family activities and conversations, and, now the chapter books she is easily devouring. This thinking recently related Scriptural truths to, you guessed it, a truck, boogers, and a window! Continue reading “A Truck, Boogers, and a Window”
All around everyone is in the hustle and bustle of the first day of school, but not in the Lilly house! We’re doing the “NOT first day cheer and challenge!” That’s right! This, our third year of A Beka DVD school, is Continue reading “The NOT first day cheer and challenge!”
God’s World – what an appropriate title for a child’s first science book! AbiNoelle has soaked up each lesson this semester with Mrs. Reese as they have observed, explored, and examined. Each day has been filled with eye-popping pictures, the “WOW!” experiments, real-life stories, things to feel, see, and taste – What FUN! And it all has been centered around a simple phrase, Continue reading “The Book Choice Makes the Difference”
Who ever knew a kid could be so excited about achievement tests! Well, leave it to AbiNoelle to get excited about a test. It’s hard to believe that we are within a month of completing the K5 school year! Soon our little worker will finish that last page of seatwork (What a RELIEF!), look back at all she has accomplished this year, and with a smile of satisfaction be able to enjoy a good time of celebration with our homeschool group, friends, and family.
Just yesterday she came moping into where I was with a test paper Continue reading “It’s that time of year”
